Yomngga and Dragon

YOMNGGA was a beautiful girl. She lived with her grandmother. Actually Yomngga had two sisters. But they lived in another village.

Yomngga was a kind girl. She always helped her grandmother in the field. Every morning they went to the field and they always went back home in the afternoon. Every day they took the same route.

They did not know that a dragon was always looking at them when they passed by a big tree. It was the dragon's house.

The dragon was not an ordinary dragon. During the day he was a dragon, but in the evening he changed into a handsome man. A witch had cursed him.

The dragon fell in love with Yomngga. However he did not know how to express his feeling. He could only stay in the trees during the days. He was afraid people people would kill him if he showed himself. He wanted to visit Yomngga at night when he changed into a human. The problem was he did not know where she lived.

Finally he could not stand it anymore. When he saw Yomngga was almost passing by the big tree, the dragon got off from the tree and approached Yomngga and her grandmother.

Of course they were shocked. They became more shocked when they saw the dragon was able to talk like a human.

"Don't be afraid. I will not harm you. I just want to know where you live."

Yomngga was shacking. She did not know what to do. And after she calmed down, she told the dragon about her house. And it made the dragon happy. He then let them continue their trip.

At night the dragon came to the Yomngga's house. He came as a handsome man. At first, Yomngga was confused. But after the dragon explained about the witch, she understood.

The dragon continued to come to Yomngga's house on the following nights. Soon they fell in love and get married. Yomngga could understand that her husband always changed into a dragon during the days. The grandmother agreed to their marriage but she asked the dragon to keep on staying in the house when he became a dragon. She did not want the villagers to kill him. Yomngga kept her marriage as their big secret. She even did not tell her two sisters.

Later Yomngga got pregnant. Her two sisters heard the news and they were very curious who her husband was. So they came to Yomngga's house. When they saw the dragon, they got very angry. And they got very angrier when they knew that the dragon was Yomngga's husband. They did not care although the dragon changed into a man at nights. They hated the dragon very much. Therefore, they planned to kill him.

One day the two sisters visited the dragon. The dragon did not know that they had prepared poisoned food. When the dragon ate the food, he died instantly.

The villagers saw the dead dragon. The two sisters told the villagers about the dragon. And when the villagers knew that the dragon was Yomngga's husband, they asked Yomngga to leave the village. Yomngga was very sad. She lost her beloved husband and she had to leave her grandmother in the village.

Yomngga left the village with a sampan. She rowed it along the small river. Since then people named the river as Yomngga's river.

Yomngga dan Naga

YOMNGGA adalah seorang gadis cantik. Dia tinggal bersama neneknya. Sebenarnya Yomngga memiliki dua saudara perempuan. Tapi mereka tinggal di desa lain.

Yomngga adalah seorang gadis baik. Dia selalu membantu neneknya di sawah. Setiap pagi mereka pergi ke sawah dan pulang ke rumah di sore hari. Tiap hari mereka mengambil rute yang sama.

Mereka tidak tahu bahwa seekor naga selalu memperhatikan mereka ketika melewati sebuah pohon besar yang merupakan kediaman naga .

Naga itu bukan naga biasa. Pada siang hari ia adalah naga, tapi di malam hari ia berubah menjadi seorang pria tampan . Seorang penyihir telah mengutuknya.

Naga jatuh cinta dengan Yomngga. Namun ia tidak tahu bagaimana mengungkapkan perasaannya . Dia hanya bisa tinggal di pohon-pohon selama berhari-hari. Dia takut orang-orang akan membunuhnya jika dia menunjukkan dirinya . Dia ingin mengunjungi Yomngga di malam hari ketika ia berubah menjadi manusia . Masalahnya adalah dia tidak tahu dimana dia tinggal .

Akhirnya ia tidak tahan lagi . Ketika ia melihat Yomngga hampir melewati pohon besar, naga turun dari pohon dan mendekati Yomngga dan neneknya.

Tentu saja mereka terkejut. Mereka mendapat lebih terkejut saat mereka melihat naga mampu berbicara seperti manusia .

"Jangan takut. Aku tidak akan menyakiti Anda. Aku hanya ingin tahu di mana Anda tinggal."

Yomngga gemetar. Dia tidak tahu harus berbuat apa. Dan setelah dia tenang, dia memberitahu  naga tentang kediamannya. Dan itu membuat naga bahagia. Dia kemudian membiarkan mereka melanjutkan perjalanan mereka.

Malamnya naga datang ke rumah Yomngga. Ia datang sebagai seorang pria tampan. Pada awalnya, Yomngga bingung. Tapi setelah naga menjelaskan tentang penyihir, dia mengerti .

Naga terus datang ke rumah Yomngga pada malam berikut. Kemudian mereka jatuh cinta dan menikah. Yomngga bisa memahami kalau suaminya selalu berubah menjadi naga pada siang hari. Nenek setuju dengan pernikahan mereka tapi ia meminta naga untuk terus tinggal di rumah ketika berwujud seekor naga. Dia tidak ingin penduduk desa membunuhnya. Yomngga lalu memutuskan bahwa pernikahannya sangat rahasia. Dia bahkan tidak memberitahu kedua saudara perempuannya.

Akhirnya Yomngga mengandung. Dua saudara perempuan mendengar kabar itu dan mereka sangat penasaran siapa suaminya. Lalu mereka datang ke rumah Yomngga. Ketika mereka melihat seekor naga, mereka marah. Dan mereka menjadi sangat marah ketika mereka tahu bahwa naga adalah suami Yomngga itu. Mereka tidak peduli meskipun naga berubah menjadi seorang pria di malam hari. Mereka sangat membenci naga itu. Kemudian mereka berencana untuk membunuhnya.

Suatu hari kedua itu saudara mengunjungi sang naga. Naga tidak tahu bahwa mereka telah menyiapkan makanan beracun. Ketika naga memakannya, dia langsung mati .

Penduduk desa melihat sang naga mati. Dua saudara perempuan mengatakan kepada warga desa tentang naga tersebut. Ketika penduduk desa tahu bahwa naga itu adalah suami Yomngga, mereka meminta Yomngga untuk meninggalkan desa. Yomngga sangat sedih. Dia kehilangan suaminya yang tercinta dan dia harus meninggalkan neneknya di desa.

Yomngga meninggalkan desa dengan sampan. Dia mendayung di sepanjang sungai kecil. Sejak itu orang yang memberi nama sungai itu sebagai Sungai Yomngga.

Prince Amat Mude

THERE was a kingdom in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam. The people were sad. Their beloved king just died. He was a great king. He loved his people very much. And he was a wise king. The king had a son. His name was Prince Amat Mude. 

Because he was still a baby, he could not become the next king. He had to wait until he was an adult. And for temporary, the king's younger brother became the king. He was Prince Amat Mude's uncle.

The uncle agreed Prince Amat Mude would become the king when he was an adult. At first everything went well, but soon the uncle changed his mind. He did not want Prince Amat Mude replaced him as the king.

The uncle wanted to be the king until he died. The uncle had a bad plan. He asked the soldiers to bring the prince and the queen to the jungle. The soldiers felt very sorry for them. So they build a house in the jungle.

The queen raised the prince by herself. She taught all good things for her son. Soon the prince became a young man, Prince Amat Mude loved fishing. And one day he caught a lot of fish. The queen and the prince sold all the fish in the nearest village.

When they arrived in the village they met a rich merchant. He was surprised to see them. He was the king's best friend. When the king was alive, he often helped the merchant. The merchant wanted to help them. He bought all the fish and asked them to stay in his house.

At home, the merchant asked his wife to cook the fish. But when the wife cut the fish she found gold inside the fish's body. She gave all the gold to the queen and the prince. They then sold the gold and built a home in the village.

The prince continued to go fishing and he always found gold inside the fish body he caught. In just a moment the prince and the queen became very rich. They were very generous. They often helped people with their money. And soon they became very famous.

The bad king heard that there were very rich people in his kingdom. He did not know that they were the queen and the prince. He wanted to know who they were so he invited them to the palace.

When the bad king met them, he was shocked. He thought the queen and the prince are already dead. He pretended to be sorry with their condition in the jungle. He said he would let the prince to be the new king. But before that he asked the prince to help him.

The bad king's wife was ill. And the cure was the coconut fruit in a remote island. The bad king had another bad plan. He asked the prince to get him the coconut fruit. He knew the prince could not get the fruit because a dragon lived in the island.

The prince went to the island. And when he arrived, he met the dragon! The prince tried to calm down. He introduced himself and asked the dragon's permission to pick the coconut fruit. The dragon was able to talk to humans. He was the best friend of the prince's father. He was willing to help the prince get his crown back.

Together the prince and the dragon went back to the palace. The bad king was so scared when he saw the dragon. He had no other choice. The people were very happy, they knew Prince Amet Mude would become a great king like his father.

The Story of Sugar Palm Tree

A husband and a wife lived happily in a village. They had two children a son and a daughter. The son’s name was Tare Iluh and the daughter’s name was Beru Sibou. Their happy life ended when their father died. Since then their mother worked hard for them. She worked so hard that it made her suffer from a terrible illness. Their mother then died. Later, Tare Iluh and Beru Sibou stayed at their uncle’s house.

The days passed by and those kids have grown into adults. Tare Iluh decided to find a job in another village. He then left his sister and his uncle. Tare Iluh wanted to make money in a short time. He thought gambling was the answer. He gambled using the money his uncle gave him. At first he won some money. He was so happy and used all the money. Sadly, he lost. All the money he had was gone. He was upset.

After that he borrowed money from the villagers, he lost again and he borrowed some money again. He kept on borrowing some money until he had a lot of debts. When the villagers asked him to pay the debt, Tare Iluh could not pay them. He did not have any money. The villagers were angry. They put him in the jail! In the mean time, Beru Sibou was waiting for his brother. She was worried because he had not given her any news. Finally she heard that his brother was in the jail. She rushed to go and wanted to meet her brother.

Beru Sibou did not know the way to the village. She was lost in a jungle. She met an old man and asked about his brother. The old man knew that there was a man in the jail because of gambling. He then suggested Beru Sibou to climb a high tree and sang a song about his brother. His brother might hear her song. Beru Sibou then climbed a high tree. She sang a song about his brother. She sang and screamed his brother’s name.

“My brother Tare Iluh? Where are you? The villagers, please release my brother.”
Nobody listened to the song and that made Beru Sibou frustrated. She then prayed to God.
“God, I’m willing to pay my brother’s debts. I will pay with my tears, my hair, and all parts of my body can be used by the villagers. But please free my brother.”

Right after she finished praying, heavy storm attacked. And slowly Beru Sibou changed into a tree. It was just not an ordinary tree. All parts of tree were useful. Her tears changed into sweet water. Her hair changed into very strong leaves. People can use them as roofs of their houses. The fruits of the tree named kolangkaling are very delicious. People name it as a sugar palm tree or pohon enau. People in other villages name it as pohon aren.
